West Berks Foodbank | Harvest Donations | Cheam School

Four Year 7 children and Mrs Penberthy were kept busy on Monday morning, collecting up all the generous and thoughtful Harvest donations from the Chapel, ready to take them to the West Berks Foodbank at Greenham. We lost count at about eighty bags, loaded with goods, much of which were the items particularly requested by the Foodbank this time.  The Foodbank volunteers were absolutely delighted with the donations, and equally happy that the children themselves decanted all of the food into crates, that they then began to date-check and sort into the appropriate storage areas in the warehouse. Laura, the Foodbank manager, showed us around and explained the logistics behind the operation. They do such a crucial job, and the children showed real interest and posed many insightful questions to expand their understanding both of the need for the Foodbank, and how it can help in the most appropriate and effective way. As Xander said on returning to Cheam, “The Foodbank stocks are low and they really need to help a load of people, so if anybody has some food or money to spare, please donate.”
