The U13 IAPS Tennis Finals were held at Clifton College in Bristol on Monday and Tuesday, 18th and 19th June. Our tennis teams, comprising Lucas and Felix for the boys, and Camilla and Cora for the girls, competed with remarkable skill and determination over the course of the two days.
Lucas and Felix played four rounds over the two days, facing formidable opponents from Caldicott, St Hugh’s, St Faith’s, and Aldwickbury. The boys showcased their resilience and tenacity, engaging in some fantastic singles battles. Notably, some matches went to sudden death, with scores as close as 10-12 and 8-10.
A highlight was their comeback in the doubles match against Alwickbury. Trailing by 3 games, they rallied to win 4-3, providing spectators with a nail-biting display of excellent tennis. Overall, Lucas and Felix won 2 rounds (both with scores of 2-1) and lost 2 rounds (both with scores of 1-2). Their performance was commendable, reflecting their dedication and skill.
The girls’ pairing of Camilla and Cora were equally impressive, playing four rounds against strong teams from Stonyhurst, Clifton, St Ronan’s and Taunton School. Camilla and Cora displayed dominant performances throughout the competition, winning 3 rounds and losing just 1.
Their victories were marked by consistent and strategic play, demonstrating their high level of tennis prowess. The girls’ impressive results are a testament to their hard work and coordination on the court.
This was the first time Cheam has competed at the IAPS Tennis Finals and it was fantastic to witness the high level of competition. Both the boys and girls gave superb accounts of themselves, representing Cheam brilliantly. Their performances were not only a showcase of excellent tennis but also of sportsmanship and perseverance. Well done to Lucas, Felix, Camilla, and Cora for their outstanding efforts. Their achievements have set a high standard for future competitions!
