Cheam arrived at the South Central Hockey Finals yesterday ready for action at the Reading Hockey Club. Managing to draw 1-1 against Headington in their first game with a great goal from Cora. We then moved on to the second match against Portsmouth where, after some gentle words from Mrs Bartlett-Smith, the girls managed to get some goals in and win that game 2-1. Excellent defensive and attacking play and goals from Ella and Emily. Third game was next, with everything to play for, Cheam left it all on the field winning 3-0 against Borlase. 2 Goals from Ella and 1 for Chloe.

Cheam topped the table and were set for the semi-final against Wellington. A cheeky goal from the opposition in the first 5 seconds certainly startled Cheam! Wellington then went on to score another great goal. But Cheam showed epic resilience and after some excellent passing between the girls, they snuck 2 past the keeper to bring us into shuffles! Zoe, Chloe and Ella had eight seconds to score a goal 1-on-1 against the keeper. Maddie rushed to the player saving an epic strike. Captain Zoë managed to pull it across to the right scoring an incredible shuffle goal. Maddie then rushed up to the player again and saved an incredible shot picking it up wide. Chloe then stepped up, her 8 second whistle blew and she went left around the keeper, scoring an impressive goal on her reverse stick allowing the team to enter the final against KES. KES were an impressive unit and even though Cheam played with determination and grit, Cheam lost 3-0. 2nd place in South Central England is a huge achievement! Well done to the girls and to Mrs Bartlett-Smith on an epic hockey season. You have done us proud girls!
