U11s Runners Up at Bradfield 7-a-side TournamentCheam’s U11A football team enjoyed a splendid day at Bradfield on Sunday. Sixteen teams entered the annual 7-a-side tournament hosted at the Berkshire school and the boys finished runners up after a great day of football. The day started very well in the group stages with a 3-0 victory over St John’s Beaumont before another victory vs Daneshill 2-0. With progression to the main competition secured Cheam seemingly relaxed in their final group match going down narrowly 2-1 to Lambrook. However, the boys had still topped the group which meant a quarter final vs local rivals Elstree. A comfortable 3-0 victory with 2 goals from James H (one a penalty) and one from Thomas M ensured our safe passage through to the semi-finals where we came up against Oratory. A tight first half against the wind and we were up against it. Some superb defending from Rafferty B, Caspar D and some great keeping from Archie H meant we kept them at bay going into half time. Milo M then came on and scored the only goal of the game after a good move down the right. 1-0 to Cheam and into the final! In the final we came up against a strong Papplewick side. A tight start could have been so much better after Rafferty B hit a sensational shot from 20 yards only to see it come back off the bar! Papplewick then capitalised on an error to go 1-0 up before we tried to fight back. Thomas M went close after a barnstorming run down the left side when he went past 4 opposing players. After half time Papplewick scored 2 quick goals before James H got one back but in the end our opponents deserved their victory. It had been a great day and we were very proud of the efforts of all the boys! Well done Cheam! Flickr album: U11s Tournament | Height: auto | Theme: Default
