It has been an exciting and inspiring Science Week at Cheam. The focus of this celebration is to promote scientific literacy, foster curiosity, and encourage pupils to engage with the world around them through hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and activities!
The theme for this week was ‘Energy’. Our Year 7 and 8 pupils made solar ovens from pizza boxes, harnessing heat energy from the sun to melt marshmallows and make delicious s’mores! The marshmallow fun didn’t stop there, pupils had a great time constructing catapults to launch marshmallows into their mouths! Year 6 were busy producing electrical energy using lemons and metals and Year 4 have been investigating thermal energy by making thermometers and using chromic paper to make reusable cups.
Pupils also enjoyed an interactive science show today from the Royal Institute of Science Lectures, where they witnessed a number of fascinating experiments on stage involving different types of energy. Thank you to the Science Department for organising these special activities this week and creating a vibrant learning environment to promote critical thinking, problem-solving skills and curiosity around the wonderful world of science!
