Cheam Chapel Choir sang Evensong in Winchester Cathedral last Wednesday. This was an inspiring opportunity for the Choir to perform in a beautiful sacred space. The children rose to the occasion and sensed the unique privilege of leading worship in the Cathedral. They helped to enrich an historic tradition celebrating the Daily Office, which has taken place in the Cathedral for hundreds of years.
The Choir had to learn new Evensong liturgy and acquire choral skills to sing the responses and the Psalm. I was very proud of their achievements, their confidence, and their commitment to the occasion.
My thanks to all the Year 8s who shared their vocal talents, performing in an impressive four parts, to the staff and parents who sang with us, and those who came along to support. I am particularly grateful to Steve Bowey, our talented Organist, for sharing his majestic playing and Andy Townsend, who added some special magic on the trumpet for this year’s service. A real joy, privilege and memory-making experience shared by us all.
