Author Visit | Peter Murray

Best-selling children’s author Peter Murray and his wife, ‘Kath with a K’, visited us to deliver two thrilling talks to the children in Years 4 to 8. Peter is no stranger to Cheam as his writing career began when he was a teacher here 20 years ago. ‘Mokee Joe Is Coming’, the first book Pete penned, was an instant hit, with initial sales supercharged by a very enthusiastic Cheam community! Since then, he and Kath have travelled the world, writing five more books in the Mokee Joe series and many other titles. With over a million books now sold, we feel very lucky to have had such a fantastic writer share his own story.

Peter’s most recent book, ‘The Darker Side of Wight’, had the Year 7 and 8 pupils on the edge of their seats with the suspense factor dialled up to 11! The children then launched into some creative writing workshops, where they started crafting their own spooky stories set at our historic school. All the pupils were fizzing with enthusiasm when they left the talk and went on to produce some superb writing. After all, that’s what it’s all about: firing up imaginations and unleashing the children’s wonderful creativity.
