A trip to the Houses of Parliament | Cheam School

On Thursday 7th November, 8S and 8HM headed off in the school minibuses after form period to catch the train from Basingstoke into London Waterloo. From there, we made our way on foot for a short walking tour of Westminster, enjoying the Autumn sunshine as we crossed the river Thames, waved at Buckingham Palace, admired the soldiers at Horseguards Parade and imagined ourselves waltzing through the security checkpoint at the end of Downing Street. After a picnic lunch in Victoria Tower Gardens, we entered the Houses of Parliament through the Education Centre, where we were warmly welcomed by our three friendly tour guides. After our tour of the Palace of Westminster, it was back to the Education Centre for a fun and really interesting workshop on how we can all influence Parliament, looking at the Suffragettes, Fathers for Justice, Extinction Rebellion and more. A brisk walk back to Waterloo and we were back at school just in time for prep!
