The Prep school and Years 1 and 2 gathered in the courtyard to observe the anniversary of D-Day and pay their respects for the Allied forces who fought on this day 80 years ago on the beaches of Normandy.

Miss Green explained the importance of this event to the children and how D-Day showed the world what planning, bravery and determination could achieve.

King Charles, Cheam Old Boy, said that the courage of all those who took part in the D-Day landings must never be forgotten. He said all of us now and especially the next generation must always honour those who died, by being responsible citizens who respectfully live in a free democracy.

The community stood in silence and watched as the Union Jack was raised in memory of this historic event.
