On Thursday we were treated to a memorable showcase of verse as we hosted our annual Poetry Performance Evening. The theme this year was ‘counting’, and pupils were initially puzzled by this, focusing solely on a numerical interpretation. However, after studying a variety of poems, many of them adjusted their approach and explored the notion of ‘gratitude’. As a result, a selection of our budding young writers in Years 6 to 8 shared their personal reflections – from the simple pleasure of tucking into an apple crumble or revelling in the understated magnificence of a sunset, to more poignant advice on navigating the vicissitudes of life. Ultimately, it was an opportunity to witness the power of the written word. Congratulations to each and every one of our performers; thank you for sharing!
