The STEM-Craft D&T camp was a huge success and pupils of all ages engaged in full days of STEM-based activities and fun. In both Weeks 1 and 2 we started off with a tower challenge, learning about how buildings are made Earthquake-resistant and putting that to the test with their collaborative creations. Years 6 and 7 had much harder rules to meet but rose to the occasion.

In Week 1, we spent two days practising the safe and accurate use of craft knives to make rubber band paddleboards and paddle boats to test in the pool. Unfortunately, the materials let us down with very few boats surviving the water experience! Nonetheless, fun was had, and the children enjoyed the process and the challenges over all three days.

Years 6 and 7 embarked on a full-scale cardboard boat regatta. After testing their knowledge on buoyancy in a mini weight holding competition, they used this experience and the cardboard manufacturing skills they were taught to make boats to carry them across the school pool in a race. The race saw a close finish between two teams while four of them succumbed to the water after their boats couldn’t handle the amount of panicked splashing in them!

The pupils had a fantastic time and responded with so much creativity and enthusiasm to every task they were set, not to mention amazing teamwork and loads of fun!
