On Monday, the girls’ 1st team achieved remarkable success at the IAPS U13 Girls Cricket Festival held in Cheltenham, one of four festivals hosted around the UK. In the opening game against The Downs Malvern, they restricted their opponents to a low score of 33, with Martha and Florence swiftly chasing it down in just three overs. The next match was a crucial game against Eagle House. We put them into bat first and kept their score tight at 48 runs, thanks to some excellent bowling and aggressive batting led by Camilla.
Next, we faced Cheltenham for a place in the semi-finals as the top-ranked team. Cheltenham proved to be tough opposition and gave us some nervy moments, but we demonstrated our strength and depth to secure the win. The semi-final against The Dragon was a thrilling encounter. Despite a shaky start and some poor fielding, allowing The Dragon to score freely, the girls held their nerve. With only 3 runs needed off 13 balls and 6 wickets remaining, a dramatic over saw us lose 4 wickets for no runs. However, Chloe’s composed approach and smart running secured the win and a place in the final.
In the final against Eagle House, who had beaten Beaudesert in the other semi-final, we bowled and fielded superbly, restricting them to 38 runs. Although initially nervous at the crease, the girls batted sensibly to chase down the total and clinch the victory. It was a tremendous team effort, with every girl supporting each other and representing Cheam School admirably. Well done to all!
