It has been a colourful and exciting week in the Pre-Prep as we have all enjoyed many exciting activities across all areas of the curriculum!
On Monday we were given a real treat by 2H who performed their wonderful assembly on who inspires them and what it takes to be an icon. They talked about bravery and resilience and then used their topic on Egypt to focus on Cleopatra, as a great icon for all of us. The assembly was filled with colour, from the amazing array of costumes, all of which were adorned with home made Egyptian collars to the backdrop of pictures that the children had designed to show themselves as Egyptians! All the children, even those who were battling the bugs, stood up, spoke with confidence and sang with enthusiasm, making us all very proud of them. Well done everyone, and thank you to Miss Hutton, Miss Baikie, Mrs Cavill and Mrs L-A for all the work that you did to help the children to shine!
On Tuesday it was the first sporting fixture of the term, and our Year 2s did not disappoint! The Inter-House Handball Tournament was held in the Sports Hall, and watched by admiring parents and staff the children showed excellent catch and passing skills as well as great teamwork. Each house played against the other houses in a round robin tournament; occasionally a substitution had to be made and I was really impressed by the way each sub played to the best of their ability, even for an opposing house! The scores were close, but in the end congratulations were given to the Yellow Giraffes, who had a convincing win! Well done to everyone for such good sportsmanship and many thanks to Mrs Dalton and Mrs Goff for organising such a well run event.
Wednesday! Happy Chinese New Year! The Pre-Prep brought in the new year in style! The classrooms were filled with red and gold outfits, fortune cookies and we proudly exhibited our Pre-Prep snake, with scales made by every member of the Pre-Prep to welcome in the Year of the Snake! From our staff assembly, where the staff acted out the story of the zodiac animals, to dancing the dragon dance and making lanterns, to eating a delicious Chinese meal for lunch, prepared by Mr Dann and his team, we all enjoyed the celebrations. Thank you to the parents who came in to help and to all the staff, in particular the team that put up the decorations in the foyer; please do pop in and see our ‘Wishing Tree’ where all the children have written their New Year wishes.
Finally, on Wednesday afternoon Music for Miniatures royally entertained us once again with a delightful hour of music, song, instruments, laughter and acrobatics! The children loved watching and learning about the wind and brass instruments and finding out what each one could do. It was a pleasure to see the attention and smiles on their faces; thank you to Mrs Cavill for organising such a great event.
With events like all of these, it is a good opportunity to thank all the staff for their involvement, enthusiasm and dedication to these children. None of these events would happen without their creativity and commitment to participating so that the children learn more about the world around them and how to cope with its challenges. Thank you everyone.
