Just before the half term break, 25 Year 8 pupils headed out to Valencia for their Sports Tour. Over four days they participated in three training sessions run by local top-level hockey and football clubs. Both the girls and the boys had two matches against local opposition during this time, with girls winning both and the boys winning one and losing the other. A real highlight was experiencing how they supported one another when watching the others play, creating some superb chants that rang out throughout the city. But it wasn’t just about playing sport on this trip! We went on a stadium tour of the Mestalla, the home of Valencia Football Club and watched a game of Pelota. Mr Shaughnessy even featured in a local TV interview!
Away from sport, they explored the city centre, went to an oceanographic centre, went kayaking and bowling. Not to forget the delicious food at the hotel along with going swimming, playing table tennis, and playing football in the Volta arena too. From the experience, it is safe to say they all overcame different challenges in being there and worked as a team but above all, created long lasting memories with their friends. They were a credit to the school and should be very proud of themselves. Please check out the Cheam Instagram for some of the highlights from the trip!
