It is a real privilege for the Chapel Choir to be invited to sing Evensong at Winchester Cathedral and be part of an historic liturgical tradition. It is also a unique singing experience for the choristers to perform in such a beautiful Cathedral and learning so many new skills and styles of music.I was so proud of the Choir, as everyone shared their voices in the praise of God. We had a depth of repertoire to learn including some responses, prayers and a psalm. Psalm singing is quite an art, and we conveyed the words of Psalm 89 with poise and maturity. We had chosen to sing the canticles by Stanford in Bb, which gave our trebles the chance to shine with their top line supported with beautiful harmonies by the altos and moments of magic from our young tenors! Great to have boys with breaking voices desperate to keep singing and contribute to the sound. This group were especially upbeat having just come off the football pitch, winning their final match for the 1st X1 to finish the term undefeated and then dashing to the Cathedral to don their cassocks and sing their hearts out…….For every reason – it was a winning day for Cheam. Glorious, top quality singing shared with many parents and a wider community worldwide online with the live streaming of the Service. We came away with the sound of our fabulous anthem by Will Todd still ringing in our ears, knowing that we had done our best and proud of achievements in being part of this glorious liturgical tradition.My thanks to every singer, children and Staff and to Mr Bowey our organist for his wonderful playing too…A very memorable day!
