Cheam has joined a number of other high-profile schools in its commitment to school-wide IT transformation and has elected to use Microsoft’s Education Transformation Framework to maximise a forward-thinking culture of learning, innovation, and continuous improvement, using technology across the curriculum.Such a holistic digital transformation has wide reaching implication for teaching and learning, planning and assessment. It is encouraging to see that this shift has already seen improved learning outcomes for pupils and is equipping them with both current and future-ready skills. This week Year 7 turned reporters and camera crew as part of their ICT lesson. The children were learning about how people receive their news online and the danger of ‘fake news’. Working in small groups the pupils decided upon a real news story to cover and embarked on their first step in the project by researching the news story online from several credible news sources. The groups chosen news topics ranging from Emma Raducanu winning the US Open to school aged children receiving the vaccine. As the lesson progressed the children had their first chance to experiment with recording one another on their tablets taking into consideration backgrounds, lighting, and speed of speech. We look forward to sharing their final news items later in the term.
