La Journée Francaise 2020

The children and staff have made “la Journée Francaise 2020” feel very special this year!The boarders were treated to a very tasty French breakfast including, of course, pains au chocolat and croissants. We then began our special assembly with the whole school singing a French hymn: “A toi la gloire” with Mr Bennett and Mrs Tull ensuring that the children showed off their best French accents!This was followed by Years 1 and 2 who gave a beautiful rendition of Alain Le Lait’s song “J’aime les fruits”, orchestrated by the talented (and very patient!) Madame Crosswell. To show their support for the lower school, the Prep pupils joined in the fun after a few verses. Children from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 came to the stage to recite the very famous French poem: Le cancre written by Jacques Prévert. These pupils can be very proud of themselves as reciting a poem in front of the school is already scary enough without having to do it another language! Bravo!The spotlight was then shone on ten members of staff from across the school who got grilled in French by our fantastic Quiz Master Basile M! The questions and cultural explanations, focusing on the French cuisine, were beautifully read by pupils from Years 7 and 8 who ensured that their pronunciation was spot on! All involved were focused and competitive and we were pleased to crown Mr Pike and Mrs Mason as the winners of the quiz!A little later, Years 4, 5 and 6 were invited to a French play performed by Onatti Production, Écris-moi. The story was about two penfriends Renée (French girl) and Ashley (English boy) who assume they are of the same gender and are horrified to discovered they are not as they are about to spend a weekend together! The play got the children giggling the whole way through and the actors were fantastic at getting them involved. What a great opportunity for children to show off their knowledge of French vocabulary.Finally, the catering team ensured we were fully immersed at lunch time as well and served delicious French croque-monsieur sandwiches and onion soup.I would like to say a big thank you to the children, to my supportive colleagues, to the parents for having helped the children get ready for their performances, to the catering team for having spoilt us with delicious food once again and finally to Onatti for having entertained us.Tiphaine Monsauret and the French DepartmentFlickr album: La Journee Francaise | Height: auto | Theme: Default
